Glassine paper is a highly smooth and dense specialty paper widely used in medical tapes, dressings, bandages, and disposable device packaging.

In medical tape manufacturing, it functions as release paper, protecting the adhesive layer, preventing sticking, and ensuring easy secondary processing.

It is also extensively used in bandage cold-seal paper, wound dressing packaging, and dental instrument packaging.

1. GSM Selection of Glassine Paper

Glassine paper is commonly available from 40–120 g/m², and different medical applications require different GSM:

   •   60 g/m² – The most common choice for jumbo rolls of medical tape; good balance of flexibility and strength.

   • 80 g/m² – Preferred for nonwoven dressing rolls with back-side logo printing, offering better stiffness.

   • 100 g/m² – Ideal for capsicum plaster sheets, as the higher stiffness prevents curling after die-cutting.

   • 40 g/m² – Widely used in bandage and band-aid cold-seal paper, the standard GSM in medical packaging.

2.Glassine Paper  Release Force Levels

Zhejiang Guanma provides light, medium, and heavy release grades to match different adhesives and client requirements:

   • Light release – Very easy to peel, suitable for gentler adhesives.

   • Medium release – Most commonly used with standard medical acrylic adhesives.

   • Heavy release – Designed for high-tack adhesives to avoid tearing or difficult peeling.

The proper release force ensures smooth processing and stable product performance.

3. Glassine Paper Silicone Coating Weight

Typical silicone coating weight is 0.5–1.2 g/m²:

   • More silicone → lighter release force

   • Less silicone → heavier release force

Available options:

   • Single-side silicone coating

   • Double-side silicone coating for special applications or double-sided tapes.

4. Glassine Paper Moisture Content

Moisture level is a critical factor when purchasing glassine paper. The recommended content is 4%–8%:

   • Too low → paper becomes brittle and may crack.

   • Too high → curling and edge lifting may occur, affecting coating and slitting performance.

A stable moisture level ensures consistent processing and product quality.
